Scottish baritone-bass Frazer Scott has established a reputation as a compelling operatic singing actor and consummate storyteller, equally at home in comic character roles, dramatic repertoire and on the concert stage. Following his portrayal of Caronte in Monteverdi’s Orfeo at Garsington Opera, MusicOMH described him as “mesmerising”, while The Guardian recently praised his work with Opera North in Pass the Spoon, declaring that he was “stealing the show”. For his portrayal as Geronimo in The Secret Marriage at the Peacock Theatre, The Independent hailed him as “an accomplished farceur”.

Frazer’s recent engagements include Mr Egg in David Fennessy’s Pass the Spoon and appearances in Opera North’s family productions of The Big Opera Mystery. He covered the role of Dr Bartolo in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro for Scottish Opera in Spring 2026, performing the role in the company’s Access Performances. 

Other notable operatic credits include Snug in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Garsington Opera and Opera North), Antonio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Garsington Opera), Lackey in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos (Opera North), and Caronte in Monteverdi’s Orfeo (Garsington Opera). Understudy assignments have included Harry in Panufnik’s Dalia, Jupiter in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Parson in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Old Gypsy in Rachmaninov’s Aleko, and Truffaldino in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos for Garsington Opera, Opera North and Scottish Opera.

In 2024, Frazer made his BBC Proms debut as Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, performing alongside the cast of the Garsington Opera production and the Philharmonia Orchestra. His concert appearances have taken him to many of the UK’s leading venues, including the Barbican, the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Cheltenham Festival and the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford. Recent highlights include appearances as a soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in George Walker’s Mass and in the UK premiere of Dutron’s arrangement of Mozart’s Requiem at the Barbican Hall, London. Frazer also sang the bass solos in English National Ballet’s production of Stravinsky’s Les Noces at Sadler’s Wells.

Frazer appears as a soloist on the Orchestra of St John’s recording of Mozart’s Requiem. His voice has also been featured in Kettle Chips advertisements across the United States, and he previously recorded jingles for BBC WM. He made his BBC Radio 3 debut alongside Richard Goulding, Jemma Redgrave and Stephanie Cole in Iain Burnside’s radio play adaptation of A Soldier and a Maker, appearing in the role of Wilf.

Competition successes include winning the Schubert Society Singer Prize at the 2019 London Song Festival Lieder Masterclass. At the Wigmore Hall final of the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards, he was awarded both the Audience Prize and First Runner-Up. He was also a finalist in the Reginald Vincent Lieder Prize.

Frazer studied on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he completed his postgraduate studies, having previously graduated with First Class Honours from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
